Monument Park
The redesign and relocating of Memorial Park was a concept that started about 2 years ago. Through a number of meetings with Mayor, Council, Administration, DPW, Borough Engineers and ultimately public meetings to discuss this - a final design layout was approved and application the Monmouth County for a matching Open Space Grant was submitted and approved. Pre planning for the park rebuild began in the spring of 2024 with a bid process, permitting and approvals in place - Down To Earth Landscaping was chosen to build the project.
Work started in July of 2024 and was completed on Monday September 10th 2024. The relocation of the current 4 monuments from their original site along the sidewalk at the plaza, to a new - more open and redesigned location using the flagpole as the center point of the park was completed. A new flag pole, future pads for monument expansion, new landscaping, privacy with a landscaped berm around the area, tree trimming, lighting, electric and irrigation were all part of the redesign.
The new Monument Park was a two-phase project. Phase one is now complete. Phase two is ongoing and will allow residents, businesses and supporters of the park to purchase engraved bricks with their name on them or in memory of captions. A small number of memorial benches (sold out) were strategically placed throughout the park.
There are also plans for a new town clock to be placed outside of the park in a location to be determined which can be funded through this donation phase of the project.
Thank you to the Mayor and Council for their approval and support of this capital improvement project to improve and forever remember those we recognize in Sea Girt.
